Increased repression and violence a sign of weakness, says Human Rights Watch

Watchdog’s newest report argues autocrats around the globe are getting determined as opponents type coalitions to problem them

More and more repressive and violent acts in opposition to civilian protests by autocratic leaders and army regimes around the globe are indicators of their desperation and weakening grip on energy, Human Rights Watch says in its annual evaluation of human rights throughout the globe.

In its world report 2022, the human rights organisation mentioned autocratic leaders confronted a major backlash in 2021, with tens of millions of individuals risking their lives to take to the streets to problem regimes’ authority and demand democracy.
