A 1986 “Rabbit” sculpture through American pop artist Jeff Koons offered for $91.1 million in New York on Wednesday, a list worth for a piece through a residing artist, Christie’s public sale area stated.

The playful, stainless-steel, 41 in (104 cm) prime rabbit, thought to be one of the crucial celebrated works of 20th-century artwork, was once offered for greater than $20 million over its pre-sale estimate.

Christie’s stated the sale made Koons the highest-priced residing artist, overtaking the $90.three million list set ultimate November through British painter David Hockney’s 1972 paintings “Portrait of an Artist (Pool With Two Figures.)”

The id of the “Rabbit” purchaser was once no longer disclosed.

The glossy, faceless outsized rabbit, clutching a carrot, is the second one in an version of 3 made through Koons in 1986.

The sale follows some other record-setting public sale worth this week. On Tuesday, probably the most few art work in Claude Monet’s celebrated “Haystacks” collection that also stays in personal fingers offered at Sotheby’s in New York for $110.7 million — a list for an Impressionist paintings.
