The most recent episode of “Saturday Night Live” had a Canadian-themed sketch, complete with references to Drake, “Degrassi” and the CBC.
Guest host Issa Rae played a Toronto correspondent at a French-Canadian news channel in the piece titled “Bonjour — hi.”
SNL pokes fun at Canadians in ‘Drake Watch’ sketch
She stood in front of a green screen image of Toronto’s waterfront for a news channel segment called “Drake Watch,” and held a microphone emblazoned with the CBC logo.
Rae and two information anchors had French accents as they chatted about whether or not she had observed the Toronto rapper.
She mentioned she puzzled him with a person in a wheelchair, which is a connection with Drake’s persona Jimmy Brooks from his days starring at the Canadian collection “Degrassi: The Subsequent Technology.”
There have been another Canadian components to the “ SNL” episode on NBC and World — Toronto-born actor Jim Carrey returned to play U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, and Stratford-Ont.-raised pop megastar Justin Bieber was once the musical visitor.
“SNL” is again to airing episodes from Studio 8H at Rockefeller Middle in New York, after doing far off performances all over the COVID-19 lockdown ultimate season.
